The lifeless bodies of Amissah and Nkrumah
Two children, Justice Kojo Amissah, 12, and his friend, Michael Nkrumah, 8, met their untimely death at Kruwa in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region when they went to fetch water in a pond.
Their bodies have been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE over the weekend, the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum Berimah said the incident happened last Monday around 6:00pm when one Richard Akomene called that his son Amissah and his (son’s) friend Nkrumah went to fetch water in a pond at the area and had not returned home.
DSP Twum Berimah stated that he dispatched some of his men to the scene and upon a search found the two bodies floating on the pond with their buckets by the pond.
He said preliminary investigations showed that one of the victims fetched the water, but the weight of the full bucket pulled him down into the pond, and while his pal tried to rescue him luck eluded them and they both drowned.
The police commander has advised the community to build a wall round the pond since that is their main source of drinking water.
DSP Twum Berimah also further warned parents not to send their young children to fetch water in the pond after dusk to avoid such unforeseen incidents.
He appealed to non-governmental and other benevolent organizations to construct a borehole for them since it is a cocoa growing area.
