The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has released the former New Patriotic Party chairman for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Micheal Omari – Wadie on bail.
Mr. Omari – Wadie was arrested on Monday at the Kotoka International Airport upon arrival from the United Kingdom.
The Bureau of National Investigations arrested and detained a former Michael Omari Wadie for allegedly circulating doctored pictures of President John Mahama on some social networking sites.
There has been a circulation of pictures of President Mahama in a compromising position with an unknown woman.
Many believe that the BNI arrested Mr. Omari-Wadie because he played some role in the circulation of the said pictures on the interwebs.
Mr. Omari-wade has reportedly been charged with offensive conduct.
Speaking after his release, Mr Wadie told Citi News that he is not guilty. According to him the BNI charged him with “offensive conduct”. “They charge me with offensive conduct; I don’t know which of the law or section they are referring to, but that is the charge they gave me.”
He also added that “They {the BNI} say I should come tomorrow[Wednesday], maybe tomorrow they will explain the law better to me.”
Speaking about how he was treated while in the BNI custody, Mr. Omari Wadie said the BNI did not allow him to see his family or speak to his lawyers. “They did not allow me to talk to any lawyer, I requested to see my family, they said no; as we speak now it is outside that I am seeing my family. I feel good I have been released, I feel better now after going through all this, if you are released you only thank God.”
The NPP accused the government of using his arrest to divert public attention from the ongoing election petition.
