The Central Regional Police Command has arrested three out of the five armed robbers specialised in car snatching in Accra who have moved into the Cape Coast metropolis to continue their activities.
The three are Ebenezer Boison aka Nana, 25, Gabriel Ikechukwu aka Gabby, a Nigerian, 30, and Robert Mensah, aka Chief, 25, while Raphael Appiah and one Bright, a Nigerian are on the run.
Briefing the press on Tuesday, the Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Moses Ninson said on May 10, 2013 the Intelligence Unit of the Kotokuraba Police mounted surveillance on the gang.
DCOP Ninson added that the police monitored the gang closely on May 11, 2013 and around 1:30am, they arrested the three.
Some of the items retrieved on them are one unbranded pistol, one taxi top light, one steering wheel cover, a commercial car side address sticker bearing the name Moses Kpentey of Accra and a DVLA document with registration number GW4478-13.
The Police Boss added that further investigation led to the recovery of taxi cabs, which they had snatched and brought to Cape Coast for re-spraying. The stolen cars, which were parked at their hide-out, are Nissan Almera and Toyota Corolla.
DCOP Ninson urged the public to be alert and give information on any suspicious characters trailing them or loitering around their communities for necessary action to be taken.
He advised members of the public, who have fallen victims to the activities of these criminals, to report at the police station with their documents for identification of the recovered vehicles and to assist in investigations.
The regional commander disclosed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) introduction of Police Visibility and Accessibility in the country was fully being implemented in the region but the police could succeed only if the public co-operated with them.
DCOP Ninson charged the public to feel free to contact police officers they may come across on patrols in their communities with any credible information regarding criminals.
