The illegitimate activities ascertained by DAILY GUIDE revealed that the reprobates gather and engage in their nefarious activity during night, after traders had closed businesses and left for their homes.
Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) had set up a night surveillance team made up persons from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), TMA Works and Housing Subcommittee and taskforce to monitor activities at the market place in the night.
The monitoring is aimed at curbing any possible fire outbreak due to rampant inferno which appears to be targeting market places in the country, hence destroying traders’ properties.
TMA, against this backdrop, through its Works and Housing Subcommittee had issued directive to traders in the Tema Central market to close business activities and leave the market by 6:00pm for the night surveillance team to takeover.
In view of this directive, the traders are expected to put out all fires, electrical gadgets and ensure that flammable materials were well placed before vacating the market, but DAILY GUIDE investigation had established that security personnel in the market were compromising security standards in collusion with some traders in the market.
Gilford Tetteh Adam, Tema Regional Fire Commander who had observed the unlawful smoking activities of the miscreants at the market noted that the surveillance team was confronted with such illegal deeds when they embarked on their ‘shadowing’. He has therefore appealed to the TMA to provide special uniform for the surveillance team so they could identify themselves whenever in the market.
