Samuel Dadson, the unemployed man who was apprehended last week for attempting to sell his girlfriend for money rituals was yesterday arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court.
The accused person was put before a court presided over by Audrey Kocuvie-Tay where he was charged with human trafficking of his girlfriend Doricina Owusu Aduomi. His plea was not taken.
He has been remanded on the orders of the trial judge to re-appear on July 19, 2013.
The prosecuting officer, ASP Richard Assor, who presented the facts of the case, told the court that the complainants, Frank Osei and Kwame Amewu, are taxi drivers in Accra while the accused person is unemployed.
He said in the middle of June 2013, the accused person hired Osei to take him around Accra to do some rounds and in the course of that he told the driver he wanted to engage in money rituals.
According to the police officer, the accused person asked the driver to assist him to locate a mallam for some rituals but they did not conclude their discussion so they exchanged numbers and promised to talk later.
The police officer stated that a few days later Dadson called Osei to inform him he had two human heads available for ritual purposes and Osei, after their conversation, narrated the matter to his pastor on the phone.
Furthermore, he said the pastor of the witness advised him to report the matter to the police and he did after which the police planned with him to get somebody to pose as a prospective buyer.
In addition, he said the police and the taxi driver, together with the prospective buyer, met the accused person, adding that the prospective buyer requested that the victim who was to be used for ritual purposes should be brought to him. The accused person said she lived in Kumasi and promised to do bring the victim.
Explaining further, he noted that after an initial negotiation for GH¢15,000 the accused person agreed to sell his victim to the prospective buyer for GH¢8,000.
He said all the bargaining happened in the presence of the police and witness after which he told them that he and the lady would arrive in Accra on July 3, 2013.
The prosecuting officer said Dadson, however, said he was cash strapped and needed some money so the prospective buyer later sent him GH¢100 through MTN mobile money.
ASP Assor said the accused person called the interested buyer and arranged to meet him and the lady at VIP bus station near Kwame Nkrumah Circle later that day adding that when they arrived Dadson called the prospective buyer and informed him.
He said the accused person and his victim waited for the prospective buyer to arrive and when he got there, he the lady sat in the vehicle of the interested buyer. Police then surrounded the vehicle and apprehended Dadson.
