Man Confesses Being A Wizard

Saturday, 20 July 2013

Residents of Jukwa Breman in the Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District of the Central Region were on Wednesday gripped with fear and shock when a 65-year-old man in the area, Opanyin Kaya Amoasan confessed to being a wizard who had worked towards retarding the development of the area.
As a result, Opanyin Amoasan, also an Ebusuapanyin in the town, was asked by the chief, Nana Kojo Kobi II, to perform some rituals to cleanse the town.
The chief demanded two sheep, two bottles of local gin, one bottle of schnapps and an amount of GH¢400 to perform some rituals to free the people of the town of the wizard’s evil deeds.
Opanyin Amoasan, who was made to carry one of the sheep on his shoulders and parade through the town, was later asked to slaughter it to pacify the gods of the area.
The Ebusuapanyin, who allegedly confessed in front of Nana Kobi and the townsfolk, said he had made himself ‘watchman’ over the town since 1973.
According to him, he had made all the university graduates in the area unemployed as well as turned the youth into drunkards.
Narrating the incident, a 29-year-old hunter Kwabena Konto stated that he was returning from a hunting expedition at 2:00am about a month ago when he saw Opanyin Amoasan naked, roaming the town with a goat around his neck.
According to Konto, the wizard later dragged his buttocks along the Twifo-Praso-Cape Coast highway while holding two goats.
Konto, who claimed to be terrified about the incident, later gathered courage and confronted the Ebusuapanyin as to why he was doing that.
The hunter reported him to Nana Kobi in the morning, and the 65-year-old man was summoned to the chief’s palace where he confessed to being a wizard.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Amoasan told the chief that he had rendered everyone in the town poor and unemployed.
According to him, he had used the gold in the town to secure a loan spiritually, that was why no company was able to mine in the area, despite several negotiations by the chief and other stakeholders.
