A 21-YEAR-old man, who has been on the run for allegedly being responsible for killing Joseph Adusa Ayisi, a security guard at Ashfold Hotel in Kumasi, has been arrested.
Prince Adu-Gyamfi, aka Owuraku, was arrested last Sunday at the Fire Ministry at Atwima Mnahyia, where he had gone to collect money from his father who is a worshiper at the church.
He has since denied any responsibility, but accused a member of his gang by name Bob Siedu as the prime suspect behind the killing of Ayisi, according to the police.
Siedu, who was also arrested for other robberies, is currently in the custody of the police assisting with investigation in connection with the shooting incident.
On Monday May 20, 2013, Adusa Ayisi was shot twice by gun men and died instantly. The gunmen had stormed the Ashfold Hotel at Bantama in an attempt to rob guests.
He was the security man at post on that fateful night going about his usual operational duties at the restaurant when the gunmen struck and killed him in cold blood after shouting, “Thieves! Thieves!!”
The 35-year-old was shot in the chest at the hotel’s reception as he attempted to foil the robbery attack on some expatriate guests of the hotel, who were said to have visited the area at the weekend.
Briefing newsmen about the arrest, DCOP Augustine Gyening, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, described 21-year-old Prince Adu-Gyamfi as a stubborn criminal, who struggled with law enforcers during his arrest.
According to him, the police had earlier identified the shooter as Adu-Gyamfi, but they had no idea where he fled to and more importantly, where he was hiding.
The police boss said after days of surveillance, the young man was arrested during a church service at Atwima Manhyia.
DCOP Gyening indicated that the latest arrest brings to two, the number of suspects arrested in connection with Adusa Ayisi’ murder.
He said one David Amoah, 30, was arrested right after the incident.
According to him, the suspect, after committing the act, was immediately arrested by a police patrol team in the vicinity that had been called to the scene.
He said the police retrieved some cartridges from Amoah, following a search conducted on him upon his arrest.
