Osei and Nti Boakye celebrating one of his goals in yesterday’s game
Asante Kotoko fought from a goal down to hand Amidaus Professionals a 3-1 defeat in the MTN FA Cup semi final at the Accra Stadium yesterday.
The win, a revenge for last year’s tournament when the Tema-based side stopped Kotoko at the quarter final stage, pits the Porcupine Warriors against Medeama for a final showdown on June 15 in Accra.
Medeama, like Kotoko fought from a goal down to defeat David Duncan’s Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium to cancel the touted final between arch-rivals, Hearts and Kotoko.
On loan Kotoko midfielder Yahaya Mohammed fired from outside the box to open the scoring when he capitalized on a counter attack just 18 minutes into the game.
The slender lead did little to frustrate Kotoko, and their efforts to cancel the lead became eminent eight minutes which resulted in two corner kicks in a row.
One of their raids paid off when Ransford Osei pulled even from a melee after goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi failed to grab a first time cross.
Thirteen minutes before the break, Kofi Nti Boakye doubled the lead when he tapped home a Richard Mpong header from a Michael Akufo header.
Many goal-scoring opportunities came Kotoko’s way but their attack was slow until Most Valuable Player for the day, Osei scored a personal second with a terrific drive in the dying minutes.
Earlier, Amidaus’ Roger Adongo raced past defender Kwabena Adusei for the equalizer but goalkeeper Isaac Amoako’s intervention was timely.
