Soul II Soul, one of the capital’s favourite retro music jams, left Accra reeling from the sound of great music performed in the best of fashions when it unleashed Daasebre Dwamena in the April edition of the show, in his much anticipated appearance on the stage.
“I’m losing a lot more sleep than Mourinho or Tito Vilanova” was the response to the question on keeping up standards by a confident CEO of Karl Aubyn, the event organisers.
“We have grown from strength to strength since the launch in December and will up the ante on May 3rd.”
The last edition kicked off with smooth jazz music before meandering through hit after hit from artistes such as Bessa Simmons and band and the tunes from the Dj of the house, a unique signature of Soul II Soul since its inception.
The audience at the April edition were treated to powerful performances from Ofie and Jones, who delivered hit songs from the 70s and 80s through a variety of genres.
The crowd was then treated to music from the guest act, Daasebre Dwamena, who after years of being away from the public eye and other major platforms didn’t seem to have lost his silky voice or the affection of his adoring fans.
The dance floor was packed with fans who just wanted him to sing all night as they twisted, shook and gyrated every ligament to tune after tune.
The lyrics of ‘Sherry’‘Still I Love You’‘Sete’ and ‘Wo Kodaa Kae me’ were as fresh in the minds of patrons as were his current hits; and they sang and danced along.
“Oh what a night…best by far,” one regular patron said.
The organisers also expressed delight in having given old school music lovers a night to remember.
Without a doubt, the April event was a huge success and according to the organisers, the May edition is expected to be nothing short of “spectacular”.
