The conjoined twins
The 16-year-old class three pupil at Nkanfua Roman Catholic Primary School, Mame Efuwa who gave birth to conjoined twins at the Central Regional Hospital some weeks ago says she wants to go back to school.
In view of that she has called on philanthropists and other people who have been touched by her situation to come to her aid to enable her to go back to the classroom.
According to her, people in the area have been making fun of her issue and wished her helpers could take her out of the town so that she could continue her education elsewhere.
“I’m being traumatized due to how some community members have been relating towards me but I don’t care since what has happened to me can happen to anybody. Today it is me and tomorrow it can be you,” she said in Fante.
Mame Efuwa disclosed this to DAILY GUIDE in an exclusive interview on Tuesday at her house in Cape Coast.
She told this reporter that she was at the hospital to extract breast milk for the children in the morning, adding that they were doing well since the children were still in the custody of the Social Welfare Department.
She indicated that she spent some hours with the children because she was asked by the hospital authority to do some lab tests, which she did.
In an interview, Mame Efuwa’s grandmother, Madam Aba Afeneba, expressed concern about the way the boy, an apprentice mechanic who impregnated Mame Efuwa totally refused to take full responsibility of the pregnancy.
“Even how to feed herself has been a problem for us since Efuwa’s mother is sick and cannot work to assist the daughter in this difficult situation and I’m also old as you can see,” she said.
Madam Afeneba disputed allegations that there was confusion between the two families during the adoption of the conjoined twins at the hospital since they accused each other of collecting money for the adoption.
The babies share the same heart but have two stomachs, two hands, two legs and two heads.
