COLLINS ADU Frimpong, a Business student sitting for his final exams in this year’s West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), last Wednesday slept behind bars at the Tutuka Police Station at Obuasi after poking a ball pen into the eye of an invigilator.
Christopher Amawu-Aculley, a teacher at the Christ the King Senior High School, had his right eye injured with the ball pen by the 19-year-old WASSCE candidate for not allowing him to go outside five minutes into the examination.
DSP Kwabena Otuo-Akyeampong, Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, who confirmed the assault, said the incident occurred around 2:45pm.
According to him, the student was among  candidates writing their Integrated Science paper two at the school where the victim was an invigilator.
He explained that per the examination procedure, all the candidates including the suspect were searched before they were allowed to enter the exams hall.
Shortly after the question papers were distributed, DAILY GUIDE gathered that Collins attempted to step out of the hall for unknown reason, but Mr. Amawu-Aculley did not permit him.
However, Collins could not manage to abide by  his teacher’s instruction and, therefore, resorted to engage the teacher in a scuffle during which he poked the right eye of the 49-year-old teacher with a ball pen.
DSP Otuo-Akyeampong said this caused the eye to bleed profusely.
According to the Crime Officer, Mr. Amawu-Aculley was rushed to hospital, while Collins was arrested and placed in police custody.
He told the paper that the suspect had since been granted a police enquiry bail, with two sureties, to enable him sit for the exams, pending further investigation.
