The Supreme Court has adjourned the substantive election petition case in which three leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as petitioners, are seeking to nullify the declaration of President John Mahama as the winner of the 2012 election, to Monday April 22, 2013.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on day three of the hearing, on Thursday April 18, 2013, was in the witness box where he was initially questioned by lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison.
He was later crossed examined by lawyer for President Mahama, Tony Lithur for over two hours about the evidence the petitioners had presented to the courts before the hearing.
Tony Lithur in cross examinations sought to point out to Dr Bawumia that per the evidence presented to the court, several of the data from the pink sheets had been duplicated.
However, Dr. Bawumia admitted that though he had mistakenly submitted to the Court some pink sheets which were duplicated in different categories, the duplicated pink sheets were never used in doing his analysis to prove the grievous omissions, malpractices and irregularities in the 2012 presidential election.
The petitioners, the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (1st petitioner), his running mate, Dr. Bawumia (2nd petitioner) and the party’s Chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey (3rd petitioner) are accusing the ruling National Democratic Congress of colluding with the Electoral Commission (2nd Respondent) to manipulate the December 7 and 8, 2012 elections.
They are praying the court to annul 4,670,504 votes and declare Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner.
