Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko prevailed over their second tier opponents, Gold Stars and Eleven Wise respectively, to pick their MTN FA Cup semi finals tickets in their respective clashes.
Hearts’ 2-0 win over Bibiani-based Gold Stars pits them against current league leaders Medeama SC, who thumped Heart of Lions in an uncompromising quarterfinal clash.
Kotoko, who struggled after 120 minutes to beat visiting Wise 2-1 on the other hand, will face Amidaus Professionals, a side that eliminated them in last year’s edition, in the other semi final clash.
Former Heart of Lions striker Gilbert Fiamenyo grabbed the opener for Hearts of Oak from the spot in the 27th minute after veteran goalkeeper Osei Boateng had failed to make a first time save.
Many scoring opportunities came Hearts’ way but they failed to convert them until the dying minutes when Owusu Bempa struck a terrific shot to double the lead to complete the joy of the few Phobians at the Accra Stadium.
At the Baba Yara Stadium, nimble-footed Michael Kafui Helegbe recorded a brace for Kotoko.
He opened the scoring after Michael Akuffo had squandered a penalty, but Justice Ampaw cancelled the lead to push the game into extra time.
Helegbe restored his side’s lead a few minutes into the first department of the extra time.
Medeama thumped Lions 2-0 at the T&A Park in the other quarter final clash.
