Job Description
CCLEAr ABI is seeking the assistance to recruit a
mortivated individual to fill the following position soonest.
Job Title: Agribusiness Incubator Manager -1 position
Position scope and purpose
The
Incubator Manager is responsible for supporting the companies in the programme
(incubatees), including the pre-incubatees, in structuring and developing their
business strategies and facilitating access to markets.
CCLEAr
ABI serves livestock agribusiness entrepreneurs through global institutional
partnerships via the UniBRAIN Facility. CCLEAr ABI is positioned to be a
leading centre for the development, innovation and commercialization of
livestock technologies within a public-private partnership environment. CCLEAr
ABI’s mission is to champion a market-first, and a science-based development
approach to livestock production in a private-public partnership environment, whilst
influencing the teaching and learning of agribusiness in our universities with
the view to developing graduates who become job creators rather than job
seekers. Its vision is to be a leading internationally recognized agribusiness
incubator in Africa for the creation of competitive livestock enterprises.
In accomplishing the above, CCLEAr ABI has an immediate opening and is
seeking the services of a qualified and a highly mortivated individual to fill
the position of an Agribusiness Incubator Manager.
Duties
and responsibilities
- The
Manager shall be responsible to the Board of Directors through the Chief
Executive Officer.
- The
Manager shall work together with the Technical and R&D Committee and
shall be responsible for the following units of the incubator:
- Diagnosis
of incubatee companies to identify strengths and weaknesses at different
levels: personal, business model, products and services, marketing,
management, etc.
- Diagnosis
of external market conditions including opportunities and threats; market
research; competitor analysis; development of business processes and
sales policies; tracking of sales activities etc.
- Assistance
with the development of detailed business growth plans and ongoing
performance evaluation of incubatee companies and pre-incubatees.
- Assistance
with the negotiation of contracts and market access on behalf of
incubatee companies and pre-incubatees.
- Monitoring
of financial performance of incubatee companies.
- Relationship
and network building with key private sector and government stakeholders
to source business opportunities for incubatee companies and
pre-incubatees.
- Developing
appropriate activities and events to attract private sector engagement
and sponsorship for the incubator and its start-up companies.
- Assisting
the Chief Executive Officer in developing and implementing programmes to
attract entrepreneurs to join CCLEAr ABI’s initiative.
Self-Improvement
- Keep
pace with market trends and developments in technology management,
marketing, and business management to provide cutting edge support to
incubatee companies.
Number
of market linkages established
- Significant
revenue generation through consultancy and livestock business
initiatives
- Two
senior management personnel mentored to take over from volunteer.
Other
- Perform
other related duties when required and/or at the request of the Chief
Executive Officer.
Required Skills or Experience
Academic Qualifications
- The
Manager must have a good academic degree preferably a Masters in Business
Administration, Masters in Agri-business/Agricultural Economics or other
related fields
- A
person with a good first degree in Agriculture and other relevant training
as well as working experience could be considered.
Knowledge,
Skills, and Experience
- The
manger must have experience in Agribusiness Incubation Program management
preferably in a Third World setting;
- The
manager should have a clear vision of the totality of the operations of
the incubator and the incubated companies;
- At
least five years of experience in a middle management position where
business development activities were undertaken and there was evidence of
impact (e.g. increase in sales; company market position etc.).
- Entrepreneurial
experience (starting and managing a small business) will be an added
advantage.
- Must be
familiar with employment legislation, cultural dynamics in the workplace,
and human resource matters within the agribusiness innovation incubation
sector.
- Experience
in advising growth oriented SMEs with accompanying evidence of
impact.
- Evidence
of networking and relationship building ability.
- Should
have experience in product development processes and business development
strategies.
- Computer
and financial literacy - Advanced computer skills are a prerequisite. The
manager must be able to use spreadsheets, word processors and
project-management tools.
