Black Stars defender John Paintsil has been arrested by the Legon Police for stabbing his wife in the eye.
He is currently being held at the Legon Police Station in Accra for interrogation.
Reports available to Radio XYZ, indicate that John Paintsil was confronted by his wife on reports making rounds that he slept with some prostitutes during the 2013 AFCON Tournament in South Africa.
The allegation was first made by football enthusiast and social commentator Appiah Kofi popularly known as Appiah Stadium in a radio interview on Happy FM.
Appiah alleged that the veteran defender was responsible for bringing women to the Black Stars camp to have sexual intercourse with them and this culminated in the team’s poor output at the Afcon.
John Pantsil however denied the allegation and threatened to drag Appiah Stadium to court to clear his name.
Wife of John Pantsil, Richlove Paintsil is reported to have questioned John Pantsil on several occasions since the issue broke but the former West Ham defender lost his temper on Friday and attacked his wife stabbing her in the eye.
Greater Accra Police PRO Freeman Tetteh told XYZ News that John Pantsil also attacked a neighbor who attempted to rescue his wife.
Freeman Tetteh added that John Paintsil is being held for assault and causing harm.
The wife is said to be unconscious after sustaining serious injuries to her eye. She is currently at a near-by hospital receiving treatment.
In a related development, But in a dramatic twist the wife told Joy News it was only a domestic quarrel.
She would not go into details on what happened, except to warn the interviewer to respect her rights to privacy.
Richlove Paintsil also cautioned against the publishing or airing of the incident.
She said the police account must not be taken seriously. She said she is heading to the Legon Police where her husband has been held to secure his release.
