Deputy Captain of the Black Stars John Paintsil, who was arrested last Friday for severely assaulting his wife and causing bodily harm to a neighbour, was rushed to the hospital after allegedly attempting to commit suicide yesterday morning.
He was taken to the Ghana-Canada Hospital, after collapsing, by his wife Richlove and other family members. The same hospital treated his wife’s wounds after the Friday drama.
It is however unclear if Paintsil actually drank poison to possibly end his life over the said allegations leveled against him.
Paintsil, whose alleged assault case is far from over, is quoted to have posted a message on his blackberry status stating, “I will rest in peace …goodbye loved once {sic},” before collapsing.
After being discharged from the hospital, Paintsil, who is still recovering, again posted on his BB status, “That was close. Thanks guys.”
Family members and close pals to the Black Stars defender have remained mum as nobody wanted to comment on the issue.
Meanwhile, Ebenezer Aidoo, a media adviser to John Paintsil, has denied that the Black Stars defender had attempted to commit suicide, stating that he only suffered from exhaustion and dehydration.
Mr Aidoo said that Paintsil received medical attention at a hospital in Accra and had been released to go home to continue with his recovery.
“The past five days have taken a severe emotional toll on the entire Paintsil family, Richlove and John especially, and that toll manifested itself in the unfortunate incident this morning,” he stated.
He urged the media to give the Paintsil family some privacy during this difficult time.
