Former President Jerry John Rawlings has rubbished media reports that he is at loggerheads with his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
Mr Rawlings, who appeared to be angry with the publication in the Al Hajjnewspaper, could not understand why the newspaper was bent on fabricating news stories about his family.
The Al Hajj newspaper, owned and edited by Alhaji Bature Iddrisu, an NDC hatchet man, carried a story with the headline, ‘JJ yells at Konadu…Shut up…Enough is Enough!’ in its yesterday edition- a story that has been rubbished by the former first family.
In the said story, which carried no byline, the paper quoted Mr. Rawlings as having told his wife, “I have had enough of this trash. What do you take me for? And why do you allow your hatred for John to make you surround yourself with characters like this? You better do something about it because enough is enough.”
Hours after the paper hit the newsstands, the office of former President Rawlings, who is also the founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), issued a stern statement denying the entire content of the story, and describing it as pure fabrication.
“We wish to state emphatically that the publication is false and a fabrication of the Al Hajj tabloid,” the statement said, insisting that “Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings travelled out of the country on Thursday January 31 and is still out of the country.”
The statement said, “The former President is in Ghana and did not travel with Nana Konadu.”
In view of this, it emphasised that “the conversation never took place”.
The office has since asked members of the general public to disregard and treat with contempt, publications by the Al Hajj on the Rawlings family because “it has cultivated the habit of publishing falsehood about the Rawlings family since its initial appearance on the newsstands.”
The statement equally urged members of the media to be circumspect in reproducing reports on the Rawlingses by the said tabloid since they would be equally held liable for publicizing any such falsehood.
