Black Stars Race To Semi Finals

Sunday, 3 February 2013

Ghana are through to the semi final stage of the AFCON tournament following a scrappy 2-0 win over debutant Cape Verde.

Substitute Mubarak Wakaso blasted in from the spot minutes after entering the pitch for the first goal and virtually walked the ball from his own half into an empty net for the second after the Cape Verdian goal keeper and his defence men went in search for a last gasp equalizer.

Even though the Stars won by two goals to nil, it is the Blue Sharks whose impressive performance would linger a while longer after pinning Ghana in their own half for most part of the second half.

After a goalless first half it was Wakaso who opened the account of the Stars in a second half with a well taken penalty kick.

Stars striker Asamoah Gyan was heavily shoved off the ball in the 18 yard box with the referee controversially pointing to the spot.

With a cool nerve, Wakaso blasted a pinpoint shot with Vozinha diving in opposite direction for Ghana’s opener.

But it was the Black Stars who were back on defensive duties after the Blue Sharks mounted pressure on them.

Fatau Dauda in a man of the match performance pulled of brilliant saves to keep the Black Stars hope alive.
