Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe
A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Tamakloe has parried claims that he was at the swearing-in ceremony of President John Dramani Mahama together with former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The NPP had instructed its members not to attend the event as a mark of protest in support of the petition they had filed at the Supreme Court against the declaration of John Mahama as the winner of the 2012 Presidential elections.
A day after the event, speculations were rife that apart from Mr. Kufuor who had the consent of the party to partake in the ceremony, as a former head of state, Nyaho also graced the occasion and was captured by television cameras.
But Dr Nyaho Tamakloe, who was the country’s Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, told DAILY GUIDE yesterday, “I was nowhere near that place”, adding that he was not the one people claimed to have seen at the Independence Square, the venue for the occasion.
Instead, he indicated, “I was at home the whole day; I never went anywhere.”
He could not fathom the motive of the persons spreading the rumour and what they intended to achieve by their actions, saying, “I don’t see why somebody should do that to me.”
This, according to him, was because “I’m the type when I do it, I will say I’ve done it.”
Apart from that, Nyaho said, “I am the type of person if I have been there the camera will be on me repeatedly, I know that for a fact.”
He therefore asked those in doubt to go to the nation’s broadcaster, Ghana Television (GTV), for the tape, and examine it to see if he was captured anywhere during the proceedings at the Independence/Black Stars Square on Monday January 7 as alleged.
