NPP Concentrate On 2016 Election

Monday, 21 January 2013

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, son of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to halt their election petition at the Supreme Court.

He said the party, which he voted for, should have conceded defeat and then go ahead to contest the results in court at a later date.

According to him, when this is done, the party would be able to concentrate on other activities such as planning for the next election in 2016.

“In my humble opinion, the NPP should have conceded defeat and then found a way to go to court to present those irregularities. I believe we have had irregularities in the past and not only in 2012 but to state that the entire process was rigged not only questions the credibility of the Electoral Commission but could make many lose confidence in the whole democratic dispensation that we have embraced. And so looking at all these, the NPP could have found a way of addressing their concerns and but not trying to disrupt our democratic process and systems. They (NPP) have to keep their eyes on 2016…” he noted.

According to him, four years is not too far and so the NPP should not act in a way that will affect their chances in 2016.
