| McBrown with Lover |
Popular Ghanaian actress Nana Ama McBrown and her boyfriend, Maxwell Mensah, were involved in a motor accident in Accra during the early hours of Wednesday.
The two collapsed on the spot and were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital. McBrown was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.
Maxwell, however, suffered a fractured arm and was discharged after treatment.
The two were cruising in a black Range Rover four-wheel drive on the George Walker Bush Motorway when a car reportedly crossed them around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday just when they reached the Abeka Lapaz end of the motorway.
Maxwell was driving the car when the accident happened.
The car’s airbags burst, front right door mangled, lights and window glasses smashed with tyres falling off.
Reports of the accident attracted a small crowd around the hospital as fans of the actress openly said prayers for her.
The accident was another near tragedy that was averted when the couple miraculously survived the crash.
The accident occurred under the traffic light and at the spot where an 11-year-old pupil was killed a week ago.
The talented actress who has become a choice in the Akan movies in the country was returning from Osu to Gbawe with Maxwell Mensah after shooting a movie, when an Opel Vectra saloon car crossed their Range Rover under the Abeka Lapaz traffic lights.
DSP Ernest Acheampong, the Tesano Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) officer, who briefed TG on the accident, said the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. yesterday.
The Range Rover with DV 8468-13 was coming from the Akweteiman area towards Gbawe.
Upon reaching Abeka Lapaz traffic lights, the amber lights were on so Maxwell Mensah drove on without watching.
The Opel Vectra, GR 922R, driven by John Kofi Dzebevi, and coming from the Abeka Police post area, crossed the road without watching.
The two vehicles crashed in the middle of the road.
The impact of the accident was so great that all the tyres of Nana Ama’s Range Rover burst.
“Where the actress was sitting was severely affected, but we thank God that they all survived,” DSP Acheampong averred.
He said the two were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment before police personnel got to the scene around 2:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Opel Vectra was sent to the Lapaz Community Hospital and discharged, according to DSP Acheampong.
Both vehicles have been towed to the yard of the Tasano MTTU while investigations continue.
Comedian Funny Face and actor Agya Koo were among those who stormed the hospital.
McBrown and Maxwell have done their best to keep their relationship on the blind side of the media though the two have been spotted hanging out and doing what lovers do several times.
On January 1, TG spotted the two having a jolly good time, petting and touching each other at the pool side of the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra.
Already, the same Maxwell had been widely speculated as being the man responsible for the pregnancy of sensational musician, Mzbel, although this has not been proved.
What is certain is that Maxwell was managing Mzbel and her music career. It is also not certain if Maxwell is still Mzbel’s manager.
Celebrities getting involved in road accidents have always caused a stir in Ghana after actress Suzzie Williams died in 2005 on the La Beach road when her car was involved in an accident.
Other names that also come to mind include hiplife great Terry Bonchaka, who died through a motor accident on the Legon road in 2003 and actor Kwame Owusu Ansah who got killed when his car was involved in a road accident in May 2008 on the motorway.
