kako Condemns NDC Misconduct

Saturday, 19 January 2013

A senior citizen, Mr Ayole Kako, on Friday appealed to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to condemn the acts of some of its supporters who went to the Supreme Court last Tuesday with canes.

He said that action was a mark of indiscipline and the party that had conducted itself well since the Electoral Commission (EC) declared President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the elections must not be seen to be denting that image.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua, Mr Kako a former civil servant, said the action was uncalled for and must be condemned in no uncertain terms and added that the Supreme Court was not an extension of any political party’s office.

While calling on the NDC to condemn the act and call its followers to order, the octogenarian appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to also do the same and said its followers had done worst things since the results of the elections were declared.

He cited the stabbing to death of an NDC supporter, attacks on journalists and the several incidents of brutalization by NPP supporters on members of the NDC as some of the extremes that both the NDC and the NPP leadership must ensure that they are not repeated.

Mr Kako said once the petition was in court political parties should impress upon their followers and supporters to stay at home.
