INJURED! Amidu Sulemana
Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, has been shot by unidentified persons believed to be armed robbers.
At about 9:00am yesterday, Alhaji Sulemana was believed to be travelling from Golluw, the capital town of the Sisala West district, to nearby Fielmuan, when he was accosted by the armed assailants.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the incident happened in a remote part between Golluw and Fielmuan where the ambush was launched.
The police in that jurisdiction had launched an investigation into the attack and would likely brief the general public about what really happened.
Already, wild speculations were sweeping through the Upper West Region, with some saying the Rambo-style attack was an assassination attempt.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Bagdara Tanko, no political motive was suspected.
“We do not suspect foul play. It is an armed robbery attack because normal people don’t mount roadblocks with guns. The security agencies will therefore handle it. It is however unknown if any personal effects were taken,” he indicated.
It was unclear how serious the gunshot wounds he sustained were, but DAILY GUIDE sources said his condition was stable and efforts were being made to airlift him to Accra for specialist attention.
Alhaji Suleman contested the Sisala West Constituency seat in the just ended Parliamentary election on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and won.
By his victory, he unseated the previous MP in the constituency, Haruna Bayiriga of the People’s National Convention (PNC).
