Ex VP Aliu Mahama Dead: NPP Cancels Campaign

The Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has called off his campaign tour due to the death of the former Vice President under the Kufuor administration, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

In an interview with Citi News, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that his death is a sad day in the history of the country.

He said: “I visited him on Sunday in the hospital and I felt a great deal of anxiety and concern when I saw his condition…he was a man who gave a good account of himself to public service. He was dependable and loyal to Kufuor and his government. All of us always valued his counsel.” 

Meanwhile, his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who was scheduled to commence his campaign tour of some constituencies in the Northern Region has with immediate effect called off all campaigning activities and is returning to Tamale.

The New Patriotic Party in a statement announced the suspension of all party campaigns.

The New Patriotic Party has received the sad news of the death of the former Vice President of the Republic and a stalwart of the NPP, Alhaji Aliu Mahama. 

The party leadership therefore, wishes to announce that all campaign activities, from the National to the constituency level have been suspended with immediate effect and will resume after the burial of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

We mourn deeply with the widow, Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, the children and the entire family.

The late former Vice president of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Alui Mahama, distinguished himself as a two-term Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, from 2001 to 2008. He singularly held up the party’s fortunes, throughout the country and was well loved by the NPP faithful and his nation.
