President John Dramani Mahama has announced he will be meeting the opposition leadership next month to “address matters of national concern.”

Addressing a breakfast meeting in Accra on Tuesday to outline some critical policy actions between September and December, he said meeting with the opposition is aimed at fostering unity within the country as well as reforming the winner takes all syndrome.

“As president, I lead the government and the nation. In the long term, inclusive governance must address the moderation and reform of the winner takes all system of Ghanaian government,” President Mahama said.

He said after next month’s meeting, he hopes to institutionalize it so that such gathering will be held at least twice a year.

President Mahama said: “The president must also meet the leadership of the opposition at least twice a year to address matters of national concern. I hope to hold with other political party leaders as an ice breaking meeting and set the new arrangement into motion and hope it will set as example for subsequent governments.”
