BA Bids President Mills Farewell

The Chiefs and people of Brong Ahafo on Friday gathered at the Sunyani Jubilee Park to bid the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills goodbye as he was laid to rest at the Asomdwe Park in Accra.

The chiefs and people who were clad in their red and black attire conveyed at the park early in the morning to pay tribute and to sing dirges to bid the former President farewell.

Speaking at the farewell ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive for Berekum, Lord Oppong, who stood in for the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo who was in Accra mourning the President, urged all Ghanaians to use the peaceful nature of the President as a guide in their day to day activities.

According to him, the Chiefs and people of Brong Ahafo deem it wise to celebrate him because they know he will rest in the bosom of his creator because of his good deeds.

Preaching the sermon, the Presbytery Chairman for Brong Ahafo, Rev. K Owusu Sarpong, quoted 2 Corinthians 5:1-5, 10: “For we know that when this tent we live in-our body here on earth-is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home he himself has made, which will last forever”, he read.

He therefore urged Ghanaians to ponder over the quotation and know that everyone has a place to go after his demise.

Rev. Sarpong, noted that after death everyone will appear before Christ, to be judged by him. “We will each receive what we deserve, according to everything we have done, good or bad”.

He also noted that death is a process of transformation to get to a higher permanent body.

After the tributes and the preaching, a wreath was laid by the Representative of the Regional Minister, Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Security Council, BA GJA, all political parties, Christian Council, Moslems, Sunyani Polytechnic, Newmont Ahafo, Omanhene of Sunyani, Dormaa Traditional Council and BA Parks and Gardens.
