The two were arrested in separate operations for the various roles they allegedly played in trafficking Ghanaians to foreign countries.
The Director of Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Superintendent Patient Quaye said often, the traffickers came with mouthwatering offers but the victims arrived at their destinations only to realize they had been deceived.
Lamptey, 35, a resident of Dansoman, was arrested on Thursday August 2, 2012 after the police gathered intelligence indicating he was processing one Richard Acquah and 14 others to be trafficked to Qatar.
He admitted to the offence during interrogation.
Yussif, 49, was also arrested the same day for trafficking a victim to Bahrain.
Yussif charged the victim’s husband $4000 after he had successfully trafficked her to Bahrain as a supposed domestic hand.
After a month, the victim called to inform the suspect that she was facing hell in that country and expressed the interest to return to Ghana.
However instead of facilitating her return he asked for further payments of $1000 but he was arrested in the process.
The two would be arraigned after investigations into the matter were completed.
The Deputy Director General CID, ACP Redeemer Vincent Dedjoe used the opportunity to call on the public to desist from traveling to especially Arab countries in search of greener pastures if they did not have any relations there.
He noted that promises and assurances given them by so-called agents were all vague because they would end up miserably over there.
He said the terrain there was a difficult one with regard to Sharia law among other strict Muslim rules.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry, according to ACP Dedjoe, had received very worrying complaints from trafficked persons in those areas and therefore advised that people should avoid such deceptive travel agents.
